The Marmara Municipalities Union Disaster Coordination and Cooperation Center (MAKİM) carries out the effective and efficient management, monitoring, auditing, training and coordination of the facilities and capabilities of the member municipalities in case of disaster or emergency.

The duties of the Marmara Municipalities Disaster Coordination and Cooperation Center (MAKİM) are as follows;

- To ensure that the Marmara Municipalities Disaster Coordination and Cooperation Plan (MAKİP) is prepared and implemented,

- To provide cooperation among the municipalities in terms of participation and contribution either as logistical support or as an operational force in disasters or emergencies that may occur in Turkey or around the world, but primarily within the borders of the municipality,

- To create the coordination necessary to effectively and efficiently provide natural and legal persons in need with every kind of facilities and capabilities required in disasters or emergencies that the member municipalities possess or promise to provide,

- To organize necessary and adequate support services that will be needed in disaster areas such as search and rescue, firefighting, water disposal, the proper disposal of hazardous chemical substances, nutrition, temporary shelters, infrastructure services, urban sanitation, hygiene, debris removal, and psychological support,

- To consult with relevant municipalities about administrating the teams belonging to the Marmara Municipalities Union, and maintaining the availability of the team that will provide the coordination with other institutions and organizations referring to the area,

- To coordinate and organize the training and exercises necessary for the implementation of the Disaster Coordination and Cooperation Plan (MAKİP),

- To ensure that coordination and follow-up personnel are assigned within the Marmara Municipalities Union and activity reports are collected and published.
