MMU JOINED TO THE NETWORK OF ALDA

Marmara Municipalities Union–MMU has joined to the network of Association of Local Democracy Agencies–ALDA which consists of over 250 members, including local authorities, associations of local authorities and civil society organizations, as well as individual members, coming from 40 countries. ALDA represents a great networking and informative platform facilitating cooperation and sharing knowledge among its members and other partners.

Established at the initiative of the Council of Europe's Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, ALDA operates in the European Union and in its Neighborhood since 1999.

Mission of ALDA is the promotion of good governance and citizens’ participation at the local level and the activities of ALDA are articulated over three main areas: ALDA Europe for promoting active European citizenship, ALDA Cooperation in the Western Balkans and in the European Neighbourhood to foster good governance, citizen participation, European integration and decentralization and ALDA Plus with the expertise in training delivery and project assistance available for ad hoc courses, consultancy, and capacity building activities.

Having been specialized in the field of training, consultancy, capacity building and raising awareness on a variety of issues such as sustainable environment, cultural and historical sources, social cohesion and integrity, common values, democracy and human rights among local decision makers and elected municipal managers, MMU has had an ongoing cooperation with ALDA in several activities and projects. Currently MMU is a co-applicant of LADDER (Local Authorities as Drivers for Development Education and Raising awareness) which is a 3-year project co-funded by the EU and carried out by 27 co-applicants and 19 associates under the leadership of ALDA. MMU had also been involved as associate in the WTD (Working Together for Development: A new challenge for Local Authorities Associations and Civil Society Networks), a multi-annual development project designed by ALDA in cooperation with 21 international partners and associates coming from 16 different countries of the enlarged Europe.
